Arapahoe County Sheriff Substation & Emergency Vehicle Operations Course

Completed: 2012

Location: Arapahoe County, CO

Archetype: Safety

Pahl Architecture led the project team in the design of a new Sheriff Substation at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. In addition to the Sheriff Substation there will be a secure, heated storage building and an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC). In addition to spaces for sheriff services, the substation building houses a private area for medical triage and paramedic staff who serve the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds and other events in the area. The detached storage building properly secures large vehicles and other specialized equipment, as well as enabling the equipment to be deployed more effectively. The design of both structures is intended to reflect the same aesthetic qualities as the Arapahoe County Events Center previously designed and completed by Pahl Architecture. The architectural character of the Events Center is reminiscent of rural architecture and sets the course for future designs of subsequent fairground buildings.

The Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) provides driving experiences that replicate most, if not all, driving conditions encountered on the public roadway systems. The track will be used by police, fire, medical and school personnel.
