Temporary Amtrak Station

Completed: 2010

Location: Denver, CO

Archetype: ReUse, Travel

Pahl Architecture was hired to gut an existing warehouse and created a fully functional, train station and regional operations center; this facility serves as a temporary station for Amtrak while the renovations to Union Station are completed. The highlight of the facility is a 4,300 SF waiting area with arch accents to mimic the existing Union Station architecture. The facility includes a baggage area, waiting room, ticket office, Amtrak offices, and male and female locker rooms with showers for conductors. A portion of the existing platform canopy at Union Station was moved to create an inviting entrance to the new facility. Amtrak service will switch on February 1st and will continue to operate out of the temporary facility for 3-4 years.
