Auraria Higher Education Center 5th Street Parking Garage

Archetype: Travel, Work

Pahl Architecture led the design team for the new parking garage located on the Auraria Campus at the corner of 5th Street and Walnut Street; this project is one of the campus’ first projects planned and completed for the 5th Street corridor. The Auraria Campus is the downtown Denver home to 3 vibrant institutions of higher education; the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado Denver. The parking garage is four stories, 307,500 SF, and includes 926 parking spaces. Additionally, the structure includes one level of 12,323 SF of mixed-variety retail space designed for LEED-NC Gold Certification along the 5th Street and Larimer Street frontage. This will interject and liven an area of campus that is anticipated to become a hub of activity as the campus transitions toward its Master Planning goals.

The primary focus of the project is to serve the needs of the Auraria Campus, replacing much-needed parking spaces from surface lots that have been lost due to new construction on campus. Its close proximity to Sports Authority Field at Mile High, the Pepsi Center, and the RTD Light Rail stop at the Auraria West Campus will provide additional value to both the Auraria Campus and the City of Denver.
